2006 Queensland Rally Champion, Glenn Brinkman, yesterday unveiled his new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 in the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane. Several cars were were on display to promote next weekend’s Coates Rally Queensland.

Brinkman will start his 2007 campaign at Rally Queensland next weekend. The rally will be based on the Sunshine Coast with competition around Imbil.

Brinkman is eagerly awaiting next weekend’s event as his new Evo 9 only arrived two weeks ago after an extensive building process. The Evo 9 has been prepared by ex-Ralliart mechanic Harvey Smith in Sydney, and Brinkman is very impressed with the work that has gone into the preparation of the new car.

He and co-driver Steven Richardson will start Rally Queensland with only two short test runs in the car. Day 1 of Rally Queensland will be more like a test day for them as they adjust to the new car and its extra horsepower.

Brinkman won last year’s Queensland title driving a Subaru Impreza WRX for five of the six rounds, then changed to a Mitsubishi Evo 5 for the last round.

The pair have embarked on a hectic season in 2007 with 10 events on the program for the year, competing in both the NSW and Queensland Championships.

Brinkman started his rally career in a Holden Commodore, them moved to Daihatsu Charades and a Nissan Micra, so his return to rallying last year in a turbo 4WD drive car was quite a different experience for both he and co-driver Richardson.
