A new competition with $3000 prize money will be open to Australian and international entrants at the country’s biggest rally event of the year, Kennards Hire Rally Australia, in November.  The R6 Digital Cup will be an invitational event run alongside the FIA World Rally Championship and CAMS Australian Rally Championship rounds at Rally Australia on 15-18 November. Competitors in cars eligible under Australian and New Zealand regulations will tackle 22 special stages over three days. Rally Australia Clerk of Course Wayne Kenny said the R6 Digital Cup would allow crews to tackle the same challenging roads as WRC or ARC crews without having to comply with full championship requirements. “A significant factor for some crews used to competing in non-championship events is freedom of tyre choice and the R6 Digital Cup rules will allow this,” Kenny said.
“Virtually everything else about the R6 Digital Cup will give crews the full experience of competing at a world championship event, including a run each evening before thousands of spectators at the Destination NSW Super Special Stage.”
Digital media agency R6 Digital has strong connections to rallying through its founder Dallas Dogger. It has been responsible for lifting Rally Australia’s social media rankings to number one among WRC events by providing information to almost 400,000 followers worldwide. "Our cash prize for the podium placegetters of the R6 Digital Cup is to provide a real incentive to ‘have a go’ at Kennards Hire Rally Australia,” Dogger said. “We expect fierce competition from local and overseas crews and hope our added incentive will bring great competition and spectacular action to the thousands of spectators on the Coffs Coast stages and hundreds of thousands of online fans. "We urge both locals and crews from overseas, especially our New Zealand friends, to enter and take up the challenge. It's been a long time since we had a great cash incentive to get on the podium and, like many, I remember the good old days when we had prizemoney for rallies." Teams wanting to enter the R6 Digital Cup should submit expressions of interest to – Adrian Coppin (Rally Australia) Tel. +61 415 508 244 Email adrian.coppin@rallyaustralia.com.au The entry fee is $2500 plus GST. Rally Australia organisers also have included a two-day Classic Cup for CAMS-approved Classic rally cars. Crews will contest 14 daytime special stages on Friday and Saturday. “We want to see many more classic cars at Rally Australia,” Wayne Kenny said. “They never fail to turn on a fantastic spectacle of sideways driving and fans love the many different makes and models of popular and exotic cars that make up a classics field. Again, this is a great opportunity for competitors who are not chasing championships to still be part of Australia’s biggest rally event.” Entry costs $850 plus GST and competitors should contact – Adrian Coppin (Rally Australia) Tel. +61 415 508 244 Email adrian.coppin@rallyaustralia.com.au Tickets to Kennards Hire Rally Australia are available on the official website www.rallyaustralia.com.au or directly from www.ticketek.com.
