Next year’s World Rally Championship will see a number of changes with Rally Japan set to leave its base of Obihiro, Rally Argentina to change dates, whilst Rally Sweden organisers are making plans to change the location of the Service Park and Shakedown to Karlstad.

News of Rally Japan’s re-location appeared in the Tokachi Mainichi newspaper, the ‘official voice’ of Rally Japan, with organisers quoted as saying the move was required in order to increase spectator numbers.

No announcement has yet been made of the new host city, but Sapporo is thought to be a likely candidate.

Meanwhile, Rally Argentina will be brought forward by a month in order to allow  Rally  Jordan to run in April, providing a greater chance of good weather in the Dead Sea region.  Rally Argentina will now be held from March 28-30, with Rally Jordan to run from April 25-27.

To make next year’s Swedish Rally more convenient, the organisers have decided to relocate the Service Park and Shakedown to Karlstad, and the Färjestad area.

A new Rally Village will be built near the trotting course where the Super Special will be run twice.  This means Shakedown, the Service Park and the Super Special will all be within walking distance.

A remote-service is planned in Sunne on Friday and in the centre of Hagfors on Saturday.

Rally Sweden is set down for February 7-10.

The 2008 WRC calendar will be presented for approval to the FIA World Council in October.
