The Anglomoil Side By Side Rally Team will go all-out for victory in the final round of the East Coast Bull Bars Australian Rally Championship this week in a bid to win its first championship title.Â
Driver Nathan Chivers is second in the Drivers Championship just 62 points behind the defending champion, Cody Crocker. Rally Victoria (November 14-15) has two heats each worth 40 points for the win or 34 points for runner-up meaning a strong performance from the Sydney driver and a mishap for Crocker could cause a big upset.Â
Although the Crocker/Foletta SxS has dominated the season, Chivers and his co-driver Adam Tillett know they can beat them which is exactly what they did in the South Australian rally in August.
Chivers and father Les race Can Am Maverick side by sides on the same roads as the rally cars and their engines, suspension and gearboxes will be pushed to the limit over 200 kilometres of special stages in the forests around Warragul and Mt Baw Baw south-east of Melbourne. It will be a challenge for co-drivers Adam Tillett and Peter Harris who haven’t been on these roads before, although Nathan and Les drove on them last season.
The SxS’s are protected by Anglomoil lubricants and have performed faultlessly - the only mishaps being in the previous round when Nathan flew high over a crest and landed on a rock which broke the differential, meaning he had to continue in 2WD not 4WD, and when Les broke a steering arm after sliding wide on a corner into an earth bank. The vee-twin engined Mavericks have been repaired and Les says they can’t wait to hit the fast forest roads.
