It's easy to think that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but sometimes we need to be thankful for what we already have. A case in point is the current dilemma facing Southern Hemisphere rallying with Rally New Zealand expected to miss out on a slot in the 2018 WRC calendar. As disappointing as this is, we need to remember that we already have a round of the WRC in our part of the world with our own Rally Australia striving forward and improving year on year. While many will lament the demise of a possible Rally New Zealand next year, the fact that Australia continues to produce one of the world’s top rallies is a huge bonus for rallying down under. Rally fans from our part of the world still have a fantastic opportunity to see the current breed of 2017 spec World Rally Cars in action on the roads and trails around Coffs Harbour. With changes to the rally’s route this year, more great spectator opportunities will be on offer across three days of fast paced competition, including the Super Special Stage on the Coffs Harbour jetty, and many forest stages where fans can witness the world’s best rally drivers. Are we happy that the WRC is not going to return to New Zealand? Absolutely not. Can we do anything about it? No. So let's embrace Rally Australia and the opportunity that we have to see the world’s best cars and drivers in action so close to home. If you haven't done so already, get yourself to Coffs Harbour in November, purchase a spectator pass and get out there amongst the dust, dirt and action. You won't be disappointed! - Peter Whitten
