Currently sitting second in the Junior World Rally Championship behind Estonian driver Romet Jurgenson, Gill and Brkic need to finish strongly in the penultimate round of the series to give them the best chance at the title.

Building on their strong performances in previous events, Gill and co-driver Brkic are comfortable with their lengthy preparations, and are confident they’ll perform at what’s known as rallying’s ‘Grand Prix’.

“I’m extremely excited to be on the entry list for Secto Rally Finland,” Gill explained.

“Having grown up watching the WRC, I’ve always dreamed of driving on these roads, and now, thanks to FIA Rally Star, it’s a reality.

“The fact that we’ve moved across the globe to live in Finland means it’s now somewhat of a home rally for us.”

With Gill and Brkic sitting just 26 points behind the championship leader, they understand the importance of this event and its consequences in setting them up for the double points finale in Greece.

“In previous rallies this year we’ve gone in somewhat underdone, but with what we’ve done to get ready for this event, I feel like we’re in a better position,” he said.

“We competed in a Finnish national round last month, have had some time in the car at tests, and have spent ample time in front of the computer watching stage vision from previous years.

“We are at a place now where we can now dial in the car at the pre-event test and shakedown, and be ready for the opening stage of the rally.”

Even with all the preparation in the world, it is difficult to fully prepare yourself for the challenges of Finland’s WRC round, which is unique.

The speed, crests and big jumps, coupled with the commitment required to drive the roads fast means it’s a big challenge.

It’s also an atmosphere like no other rally in the world, and the importance of not getting caught up in the fanfare is well in the front of the Australians’ minds.

“I spectated at the rally last year, but being a part of it inside the car for 2024 is somewhat daunting, however, it’s a challenge I’m eager for.

“Keeping a level head is vital, and both Dan and I are conscious of taking it all in, but also keeping our minds on the task at hand.”

Adorning the number 66 on the side of their Ford Fiesta Rally3, Gill and Brkic start as the third-seeded JWRC driver.

Many Australians have made the trip to Finland to support him in his quest for JWRC glory on arguably the most famous rally of all.
