DustTrails, Episode 30: Neil Blackbourn’s rally experiences

Photographer Neil Blackbourn is well-known for his stunning images from stage side, and in our latest long-form podcast he shares his first-hand stories from his years in the sport.

‘Blacky’ is one of the most well-travelled snappers and has transitioned from the film age to digital, and is still involved in the sport nowadays.

RallySport Magazine’s Peter Whitten chats with Neil about his experiences in the sport and asks about his big photography breaks, and how he got involved with this publication, then Australian Rallysport News.

There are stories aplenty from Rally Australia and Rally New Zealand, and a wild trip to Finland alongside the late, great Martin Holmes.

He also talks about a stretch of gravel that upset Carlos Sainz and, devastatingly, Colin McRae and Francois Delecour two years running. Those stories will send chills down your spine.

Listen below to Neil’s many stories from more than 30 years in the sport.
