DustTrails, Episode 4: Herridge’s 2004 Group N masterpiece

In 2004, Dean Herridge took Group N victory in stunning fashion at Rally New Zealand. For this episode of DustTrails, we’re backtracking to this event to relive arguably his greatest achievement.

It was in the heyday of hard-fought Group N wins, and the West Australian was up against a high class PWRC field of factory WRC drivers and World Champions (pictured below).

Prior to the trip across the Tasman, Herridge, co-driver Glenn MacNeall, and Subaru Rally Team Australia were shell-shocked after the first round of the Australian series, soundly beaten by a young charger by the name of Chris Atkinson.

You may have heard of him…

At the time, we called it the ‘changing of the guard’, but Herridge, Crocker and the Subaru team were back on top next time out in New Zealand.

The factory Subaru pairing dominated, but it was Herridge who came out on top, in arguably his crowning moment as a driver.

Bear with us on this one, the audio quality is not the greatest, but it doesn’t dull down the story.
