The East Coast Classic Rally Series (ECCRS) will extend to South Australia and will include the Rally of the Heartland in 2020. The event has proven to be popular over the past couple of years, with a competitor friendly format and some great South Australian roads on offer, including long night stages. Stuart Bowes and former ARC-winning co-driver, Mark Nelson, won the 2019 edition of the rally in their Mercedes. “The AGL Rally of the Heartland is an event ideally suited to classic rally cars and will be a perfect fit for the 2020 East Coast Classic Rally Series," NSW Rally Panel Chair, John Sparkes, said. “The Series is designed to entice classic rally car owners into competition by offering a wide choice of affordable events and specific PR for events and competitors.” The ECCRS is currently in its second year and spans the eastern states with events in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. The 2020 Series will offer up to eight events from which competitors can choose to enter. Each event will consist of at least two heats with the best eight heats over the year counting towards final Series point scores. This will allow competitors plenty of choice as to which events to contest, and help to minimise travel costs and time away from home. The Clerk of Course of the AGL Rally SA - Rally of the Heartland, Ivar Stanelis, said added: “We are delighted to be selected as a round of this premier series. "Our aim from the outset was to provide an event that would attract the classic rallyist, and this is a great indication that we are on the right path. ECCRS entrants will encounter a warm welcome, and a very competitive event.” Planned for the weekend of May 16 and 17, the event will be based in the Hallett/Burra/Terowie area of South Australia.
