Preparation for the 2009 East Gippsland Stages is well advanced with the event set to kick the Victorian Rally Championship off to a great start.
After the unfortunate cancellation due to bushfires of the Cerberus Stages which was to be round 1 of the championship, Saturday, May 16 will see Bairnsdale and Lindenow in East Gippsland play host to the best rally cars and crews in the state to finally get the Victorian Championship under way.
Competing over some of the best rally roads this country has to offer, many of which haven’t been used since the legendary Akademos Rallies of the 1970’s and 80’s, crews will complete nine Special Stages covering a competitive distance of 135km. A number of the stages will be run at night. After starting in Bairnsdale, the Service Park and finish will be located at Lindenow footy ground.
The directing team, overseen by Glen McAliece, promise a great event with plenty to challenge and excite crews and spectators alike. Spectators will be treated to two exciting vantage points, both within easy reach of Lindenow.
With the support of the Bairnsdale and Lindenow communities, the East Gippsland Stages is a great showcase for a region keen to show what a fantastic destination it is. Accommodation is being handled by the East Gippsland Visitor Centre and can be organised by calling 1800 637 060 or visiting www.discovereastgippsland.com.au
As usual we need lots of willing helpers to make this event run so if you can’t compete, contact our Officials Coordinator, Owen Polanski who will gladly organise a role for you in the forest.
