Young charger, Eli Evans, has crashed out of the Capital Rally of Canberra on the third stage, doing extensive damage to his brand new Subaru Impreza WRX.
Both Evans and his co-driver, Chris Murphy, were uninjured in the accident, which happened near the finish of the 10km Mineshaft stage, however their Subaru was left blocking the stage, which then had to be stopped.
The event medical team and the event helicopter were quickly on the scene. The stage has now been restarted.
Evans had only driven his new Impreza for the first time on gravel at yesterday’s pre-event shakedown, however his team will now have plenty of work ahead of them if they are to get the car ready for Day Two of the Rally of Canberra, which gets underway at tomorrow morning.
Evans’ brother, Simon, leads the third round of the Australian Rally Championship, ahead of his Toyota team-mate Neal Bates.
