Victorians Brendan Reeves and Rhianon Smyth have had an emphatic victory in Targa Tasmania which concluded in Hobart yesterday afternoon. The pair finished victors in the Showroom class by an impressive 14 minutes 45 seconds after five gruelling days of tarmac competition.
Not content on just taking out Showroom honours, Reeves showed his talent against competitors in more highly-powered vehicles and finished the event in fourth outright. With only two Nissan GTRs and a Subaru WRX (both of which are 4WDs) ahead of him, the Mazda3 MPS driver's outright result was nothing short of superb. Fourth outright is the highest placed finish of any Showroom class vehicle in the event's 20 year history. Proving his competitiveness, Reeves's stage time on the day's first stage was only beaten by event winner, Tony Quinn, in one of the GTRs.
"We’ve had a great run and to finish second outright on the first stage today was awesome," Reeves said. "Our aim was to finish in the top 10 outright, so to finish fourth outright is amazing considering the car we’re in."
"Once again, the Mazda3 MPS has been a dream to drive and I'm rapt to finish with such a great result. It's a great way to say thank you to our team for all their hard work over the last week."
Reeves and Smyth will now turn their attention to their next event, Rally Sardinia (Italy) in May. The event is the second round of the World Rally Championship Academy in which their pair are competing this year.
