Simon Evans is eyeing an impressive six Australian Rally Championship Heat wins from six ARC rounds, as he nears victory in the Capital Rally of Canberra.

Evans and wife Sue, further increased their lead over the third, fourth and fifth stages of the day, and now have a virtually unassailable lead of 50.9 seconds with just two stages left to run.

The Super 2000 Toyota Corolla of Neal Bates has managed to grab an 8.1 second buffer over privateer Spencer Lowndes, who in turn is just 1.8 seconds ahead of the younger Evans, Simon’s brother Eli.

Will Orders is fifth in his Subaru, despite losing fifth gear, while Kelvin Croker has moved ahead of Brendan Reeves and is now in sixth place.

It’s been a bad morning for the factory Ford team. Darren Windus retired with mechanical problems near the end of day’s fourth stage, while team-mate Michael Guest retired the other Super 2000 Fiesta at the end of that stage.

Australian Rally Championship competitors are now undergoing a 20 minute service before heading back into the Kowen Forest for the final two stages of the day.
