Eli Evans and Glen Weston have struck the first blow in the battle for supremacy at the Make Smoking History Forest Rally, round two of the CAMS Australian Rally Championship® (ARC), in Busselton.
Evans/Weston will take a 3 second lead into the stages in the Nannup plantation forests tomorrow, but most importantly have two stage wins under their belt.
“It’s important to win these stages because there’s a bonus point for most stage wins for the weekend, so this stage is just as important as the stages out in the forest in that regard,” Evans said. “You need to be neat here, be fast and make them count.”
Evans and current ARC leader Harry Bates are the only crews in the 50 car field to have taken a Forest Rally victory and with only three Championship points separating the top three crews (Harry Bates, Nathan Quinn and Eli Evans) coming into the event competition for the opening Heat win will be fierce in the forest tomorrow.
Brad Markovic and Toni Feaver were fastest home in the CAMS Onslow Contracting WA Rally Championship, with Dylan King/Abbey Hayes in second and John O’Dowd/Kenneth Sheil third.
More than 50 crews from across Australia will contest the Make Smoking History Forest Rally through the forests of Nannup and around the electric Trade Hire Busselton Special Stage. The event is the second round of both the CAMS Australian Rally Championship® and the CAMS Onslow Contracting WA Rally Championship.
