Welshman Gwyndaf Evans (pictured), driving the Viking Motorsport (Phil Mills' Co.) Ford Escort RS1800, has won the Roger Albert Clark Rally at his first attempt.
Evans, who had former Motoring News Road Rally champion John Millington sitting alongside him, pretty much dominated the four day event with a superlative drive, to win by just over 4 minutes from the Escort RS1600 of Jeremy Easson.
Paul Griffiths was an excellent third overall in a MK2 Escort and held off a determined final day challenge from Steve Bannister, in another RS1800, by a scant 3 seconds. Rounding out the top five was Rob Smith in his spectacularly driven Vauxhall Chevette 2300 HSR.
