In his Australian Rally Championship debut, Stephen Turner and co-driver Daniel Willson have taken victory in their Ford Falcon XR6 at the International Rally of Queensland held on the Sunshine Coast.

The small Tasmanian based team had to overcome a few mechanical issues with their Falcon XR6 on day one that almost ended the weekend for them.

“It looked pretty bad for us on Saturday afternoon, I managed to break the gearbox and we had no power steering,” Stephen said.  “We didn't have a spare gearbox so we flushed it out, changed the oil and hoped that it would hold together for the seven stages on Sunday.”

With only three gears left Stephen and Daniel pushed on and by the final stage had not only won the 2WD Rallyschool.com.au Junior category, but had also managed to win the 2WD section of the Australian Rally Championship by a margin of nearly five minutes.

“It's a real shock to get the win in light of all the dramas we had this weekend,” said co-driver Daniel.  “We came here just hoping to qualify for the Junior Challenge but to get a result like this is just fantastic, not only for us but for our sponsors, the Yellow Cab Company.”

The win in Rally Queensland means that the team have now qualified for the Rallyschool.com.au Australian Junior Challenge final to be held at Rally Australia in Coffs Harbour in September.
