The winner of that first event in Western Australia, you might ask? It was a Torana XU-1 in the hands of Peter Lang and George Shepheard. It was in the year following Lang’s Australian Rally Championship winning season and was the perfect start to his championship defence.
Stewart McLeod and Bob Watson were the drivers that followed Lang on the podium that year, and in fifth was a name that would become synonymous with the WA round.
