Gaps close in Production Cup title race

The fight for Production Cup glory is still wide open, and the Coffs Coast Rally at the end of next month will surely be one to watch.

For Max McRae, who sat second in the series coming into the weekend, there was early trouble.

On the opening set of stages around The Bend Motorsport Park, gearbox troubles meant his Maximum Motorsport team had significant work to do in both the evening and the following morning.

The team removed the damaged sequential gearbox, which had lost fifth gear, and reinstalled a standard synchro box, meaning the use of the clutch was required for all gear changes for the remainder of the weekend.

Despite the issue, McRae sat only 1.4 seconds behind the leader, Taylor Gill, after the tarmac stages, however, he received a time penalty the following morning as the team could not change the gearbox in the allotted service time.
