Fresh from a convincing win in this year’s Targa Tasmania, South Australian Steve Glenney will contest his home town tarmac event, the 2008 asp Adelaide Hills Tarmac Sprint Rally.

Held on the 29th June in the beautiful McLaren Vale wine region south of Adelaide, the event is Round 3 of the South Australian Rally Championship, with the winner also being crowned the CAMS South Australian Tarmac Rally Champion.

In the driest ever Targa Tasmania, Glenney and co-driver Bernie Webb brought their Mitsubishi EVO IX home in front of the Porsche GT2 of eight-time Targa winners Jim Richards and Barry Oliver, claiming Mitsubishi’s maiden Targa victory.

The win made an exciting Tassie double for the South Australian horse trainer, who also won Tasmania’s Rally Tasmania earlier this year.

“After our two great wins in Tassie, I’m really looking forward to tackling the sensational tarmac roads of the Adelaide Hills… it’s right in my own backyard!” explained Glenney.

Glenney will lead a strong field of 80 crews over 10 special tarmac stages in the asp Adelaide Hills Tarmac Sprint Rally, conducted again this year by the Southern Districts Car Club.

Being based around the Penny’s Hill Winery, many teams will be using the event as a shakedown for this year’s Classic Adelaide Rally with several roads being shared between the two events.
