The first day of competition consisted of four stages. SS1 was a 2.5 kilometre gravel stage along the coastline and SS2 a very technical autocross track of 3.1 kilometres. Both stages were then repeated.
Reeves opted to use old tyres for the four stages, saving his new tyres for Saturday, when the rally proper gets underway, but the young Victorian still managed to win SS4, and is really looking forward to Leg 2. He is aiming to take maximum Pacific Cup points this weekend and wrap up the title, whilst a good outright placing is also part of his weekend's goals.
