New Zealand's Rally Hawkes Bay, scheduled to run on July 25, has been cancelled.
An official event press release from the Hawkes Bay Car Club outlined the reasons for the cancellation:
MotorSport NZ cancelling the NZ Rally Championship (NZRC) for 2020 and
there being insufficient time available for us once we got to Alert Level 1 to organise the event.
Cancelling the NZRC is the right move and MSNZ are to be congratulated for taking this decision at an early time. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our competitors, sponsors and volunteers, all of whom we were looking forward to seeing on event.
Organising a rally is a significant undertaking. Currently, the restrictions on personal movement, travel and gatherings, make it impossible for us to continue with our organising activities. We could recommence once we were at Alert Level 1, but would still need a further eight weeks to complete all the activities. The uncertainty of the timeframe to get to Alert Level 1 was a critical factor in our decision-making.
"We are now looking forward to later in the year when the 2021 NZRC calendar is finalised," Rally committee chairman, Graeme Robertson, said.
