This Sunday’s Bega Valley Rally has attracted over 100 entries, with competitors in the NSW and Victorian battling it out for points in their respective state championships.

As well as the 96 entries in the regular event, there are also an additional 12 classic rally car entries, which will run ahead of the main event.

Heading the entry list on the traditional Queen’s Birthday long-weekend event will be the Lancer Evo 7 of Michael Boaden, with current Asia Pacific Rally Championship driver, Eli Evans, next in his Subaru Impreza WRX. The event has a big list of ‘name’ drivers from both states, including Croker, Dowel, Stilling, Sandy, Giddins and Nutter.

The rally also counts as a round of the ACT rally championship, and the Victorian and NSW Hyundai Excel series.

In the classic rally event, the field is heading by five-time Australian Rally Champion Ross Dunkerton in a freshly-built Datsun Stanza. His biggest challengers are expected to come from Kari Dirickx in a Datsun 1600, Shawn Urquhart in a Fiat 131 Abarth and Darren Snooks in another Datsun Stanza.

Ian Buddery will also contest the classic rally in his unique Lancia Stratos.

The Bega Valley Rally gets underway on Sunday morning. The event is widely regarded as one of the best on the calendar, and utilises fast, flowing roads that are a driver’s delight.
