Nine years on, Indian rally driver Gaurav Gill, who won his third national championship title at the weekend on the K1000 Rally in Bangalore, has confirmed he is hoping to return to rallying in Europe! In 2008 and 2009 he was a driver in the troubled Team Sidvin India Subaru Group N team, which was suddenly disbanded after competing in GB, Cyprus and Portugal.
It is hoped he will drive a Skoda Fabia R5 from the Dutch Wevers team in WRC2 events, even though it will not be possible under championship rules to run on his usual MRF tyres.
“I have many special memories competing against such famous drivers, and especially when the engine failed on the final road section in Cyprus,” Gill said. An announcement about his 2018 programme is expected in the next two weeks or so, and also about the identity of his team-mate in the 2018 MRF rally team programme in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship.
