Christchurch's Matt Jansen has taken over the lead in the Junior Championship category of this year's Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, powered by Brother [NZRC] - this weekend's Drivesouth Rally Otago - and has finally got the top result that he has been striving for since his debut here in 2005.

This year is the 24 year old's final opportunity to claim a second Junior title - he won his first in 2009 - and a round win this weekend has moved Matt into a 12 point lead over previous front runner Alex Kelsey.

Matt also recorded another top overall result - an excellent 4th place finish in the NZRC title race which, along with his career-best 2nd at the opening round at Whangarei and a 5th at last month's Rally Wairarapa sees him in 4th at the halfway point in the series.

"Once again the MITECH WELDERS Subaru has done us proud and we were rapt to score a 1 - 2 for ScottSpeed Performance Engines at yesterday's tarmac Super Special Stage in the centre of the city.

"We are also very pleased to realise that we are now one of only three teams in the championship who have finished all three rounds so far this year," said Matt.

"As we said before the rally, our approach this weekend was to stay 'clean and tidy' and go at our own pace to ensure we left with the maximum [NZRC] points possible.

"So, unlike several others, we are more than happy to be heading home with a car that is still in great shape," continued Matt.

"This is particularly important considering that we have only two weekends to prepare the car before it has to go north for the next round [WRC Brother Rally New Zealand - June 21 -24]."

"And to have the Junior Championship lead is a great boost for our MITECH WELDERS Subaru Team."
