Rally Tasmania leaders Jim Richards and Barry Oliver have had to withdraw from the rally after the first stage of day three.
Their Porsche 911 GT2 has encountered steering rack problems, making the car unsafe to continue at competition speed.
“Jim was having trouble keeping the car in a straight line even on straight roads,” Oliver said after their withdrawal.
“The car was even more nervous over the bumpy sections and we just weren’t prepared to take the risk at rally speeds.
“Motorsport can be cruel at times, but at least we’ve proven that we’ve still got the speed, and that bodes well heading in to Targa Tasmania in April.”
