A record breaking number of entries in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy International will travel to Scandinavia for the eighth round of the WRC and the third round of the Fiesta Trophy International for 2010 which will kick off on Thursday 29th July.
Talking of the challenge ahead Australian team manager Ron Cremen said
“Our drivers are now at a point in their career that there second appearance in Finland will not be so daunting as it was last year, Rally Finland is a firm favourite with drivers and spectators alike and with so many young Finnish drivers contesting the Fiesta Trophy, I think we are going to be in for one hell of an event”
Abu Dhabi drivers Majed Al Shamsi currently third, Bader Al Jabri currently fourth and Sultan Al Ameri all line up for the team in a trio of M-Sport built Ford Fiesta R2 cars and will tackle the 1,307km , 19 special stage event and hope to build on their championship points scoring positions as the series nears the halfway point.
The team has just returned from Italy where they underwent extensive tarmac driver training and contested a domestic Italian Championship event in Cuneo with a 1, 2, and 3 in class in preparation for the following WRC tarmac events in Germany, France and Spain which also make up the Fiesta Championship.
Since 2007, Team Abu Dhabi under the guidance of Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority have as part of its community outreach objective pioneered a Junior driver program for young Emirati youth in both Middle East and WRC events.
Abu Dhabi is fast becoming a centre of excellence for building a culture of motorsport which showcases both the unique character of the emirate and its motorsport aspirations.
