Tony Gosling’s Rally Australia quest has ended before it began. The Kiwi was set to drive a rented Citroen DS3 R3 at this weekend’s rally, however, a testing accident on Monday put paid to his plans.

Tony Gosling was set to drive a Citroen DS3 R3

Gosling clipped the inside of a corner, tearing off the DS3’s suspension before rolling multiple times. The damage to the Citroen was too severe for the New Zealand Rally Championship regular to continue. Gosling and co-driver, Blair Read, usually run a Ford Escort RS1800 in New Zealand, but this weekend, was switching to a front wheel drive Citroen for the Coffs Harbour event.

Both Citroens DS3 R3s were hired out for the event.

Fellow New Zealander, Mike Young, is driving an identical car to Gosling, and will continue to fly the Kiwi flag alongside WRC regular, Hayden Paddon. Those to also test on Monday were internationals, Jordan Serderidis and Kalle Rovanpera, as well as regular Australian runners, Brendan Reeves, Harry Bates, Eli Evans and Molly Taylor. Kennards Hire Rally Australia kicks off tomorrow night in the centre of Coffs Harbour with the ever popular rally show.
