Former Rally Finland winner, Esapekka Lappi, had a disastrous return to rallying in a rally in Finland on the weekend. The M-Sport star was set to drive a JanPro Racing Ford Fiesta WRC at Jämsä on Saturday, but the car ground to a halt just 300 metres into a test on Friday. "The turbo shaft broke immediately. We had time to drive 300 meters – a few bends and three jumps could fit in the trip," Lappi said. "We had a brand new engine and turbo from M-Sport, but still it broke down," he added. The team didn't have a spare turbo to fit to the car, so the Ford driver was forced to miss the rally altogether, severely hampering his preparations for next month's WRC return in Estonia. M-Sport has not been testing in recent weeks due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but their rivals, Toyota and Hyundai, have been hard at it in both testing and competition. It means that the Ford squad will likely be at a big disadvantage once the world championship resumes in early September.
