The organisers of the Swedish Rally, round 2 of the FIA’s 2018 World Rally Championship, have been given permission by the FIA to accept a late entry for their event from Johan Kristoffersson, the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Champion.
It is to be in a Skoda Fabia R5.
Entries closed a month before the event and the FIA officially approved the list on January 19.
Clause 21 of the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship Sporting Regulations, which covers entry rules, makes no provision for additional entries after closing dates.
Kristofferson’s entry is a new, rather than a changed entry.
A spokesman for the event said:
“We asked FIA if they would accept his late entry and they did. Probably they saw the great PR value of having him in the rally.”
Back in 1983 there was a cause to celebrate when a late entry by Skoda’s associated company, Audi, for the Swedish driver, Stig Blomqvist, was accepted by the organisers of the New Zealand Rally.
Stig started the event, but the FIA insisted he should stop in mid-event.
