The 2010 Rally Season for Kerikeri based Team Dilusi begins this weekend and anticipation is high as ‘Lucy’ (the car) is in its final stages of preparation.
Driver Kingsley Thompson, co-driver Malcolm Peden and the crew have been working hard over the past months getting the 2009 Mitsubishi Evolution X ready with some new modifications and upgrades such as bigger brakes and the new ‘dogbox’. Upgrading from the standard gearbox will allow Thompson to change gears without using the clutch.
“This will improve our stage times and every second counts” says Thompson.
‘Lucy’ has experienced more improvements than any of her road-going counterparts and with Dunlop Tyres and Repco supporting the team this year, Dilusi are looking forward to improving on their well- placed 5th finish in their 2009 rookie season.
“Now the car has been upgraded to the equivalent specifications of other top qualifying Group N cars, Kingsley and I are looking forward to the challenge of pushing the limits and ultimately finding success” says Peden.
The team would like to extend a huge thanks to ‘Choice’ at Ralliart for the rebuild of the engine, which saw the car out testing Easter Weekend.
“Terrifying but exhilarating,” explained Kingsley’s sister Kimberley, wide eyed moments after a successful test run.
With pre season teething problems out of the way, the team is confident about the year ahead as this year’s rally calendar will include a round of the World Rally Championship, sure to be a fantastic event.
A big thank you to all our local Bay of Island supporters plus our National and International supporters.
