Ryan Williams has gone into detail on his Coffs Coast Rally victory and highlighted his enjoyment of fighting with Josh Redhead for the hard-earned win.
Williams, who admitted he was long overdue for a Queensland Rally Championship round win, took victory on Saturday with co-driver, Brad Jones, by a small margin.
Road conditions were treacherous in Coffs Harbour amid hundreds of millimetres of rain in the lead-up to the rally, and Williams admitted a cautious approach was needed to get his Subaru through.
“It took a battering, that's for sure, but it ran really well. It's literally one of roughest rallies I've ever done,” he said. “They had 300mm of rain about a month and a bit ago and there were trenches down some of the pieces of road.”
Speaking of the roads, there were parts affected by the torrential rainfall in the area, but there were also the famous, pristine roads that stars like Andreas Mikkelsen openly called their favourite in the World Rally Championship.
“It was a balance of what to do (over the rough stuff), but then there was Sherwood and Plum Pudding that were just cracking. That was sweet,” Williams said.
