A fact which remained secret in the heavy pre-rally rains in Mikolajki is that Ott Tanak had a new car (chassis 8) for Rally Poland, and that Elfyn Evans inherited the car which Tanak had used for all the season since Monte Carlo (chassis 3).  

Ott’s M-Sport team mate, Sebastien Ogier, had already been supplied a new car (chassis 7) after Argentina, in time for Portugal.   

Ogier’s original car has recently been used for testing in Britain, while Lorenzo Bertelli’s superfluous car (chassis 6) is being used in Poland by Suninen.  

Tracing the activities of M-Sport’s 2017 cars is difficult because the cars of both Ogier and Tanak carry their drivers’ own personalised British “cherished” registration numbers during rallies (WRT1 and WRT2).  

Incidentally, M-Sport’s original 2017 test car has carried three different registration numbers in the past year …
