The huge journey from M-Sport headquarters to Rally Turkey has been identified in a blog issued by the North England operation. M-Sport is the furthest travelling WRC team to this event, and a quick resume lists some of the plans made for moving the team's trucks. M-Sport's base in Dovenby is about 1200km from Trieste in Italy.
  • The restock truck left M-Sport on Friday, August 30, heading for Trieste in Italy.
  • The WRC, R5 and recce transporters left M-Sport on Sunday, September 1, heading for Trieste in Italy.
  • Also on September 1, two truck drivers fly to Germany to collect two set-up trucks which were stored there after the rally, and headed for Trieste in Italy.
  • On Monday, September 2, a final truck driver flew to Germany to collect the final recce truck that was stored there, and continued to Trieste in Italy.
  • The restock and two set-up trucks arrived in Trieste on Tuesday, September 3 and were loaded onto the RoRo which departs Trieste at 20h00. These three truck drivers will then fly to Turkey on Wednesday, September 4.
  • All remaining trucks arrive in Trieste on Thursday, September 5 and are loaded onto the RoRo sailing at 20h00. The final truck drivers fly to Turkey on Friday, September 6.
Note: Cesme is the nearest international ferry port to Marmaris, leaving 350km left to travel.
  • Restock and set-up trucks arrive in Cesme at 13h00 on Friday, September 6 and are collected by the first three truck drivers who continue to the service park after clearing customs.
  • All truck drivers start set-up on Saturday, September 7.
  • And on Sunday, September 8, four truck drivers head to Cesme to collect the final trucks which dock at 13h00 – continuing to the service park after clearing customs.
Then comes the easy bit - the rally itself, and afterwards, there is the journey home! And finally the compensation. The next event is the Wales Rally GB. FLASHBACK to 1975: Sometimes things can go badly wrong. The trucks carrying the wheels and tyres for the Ford official team at Sanremo WRC Rally took longer to pass Customs inspection than expected and the team could not start the rally.
