Force Motorsport will field two Mazda AP4 cars at the start line of the New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC) opener, while another will be run by a championship legend.
Jack Hawkeswood, son of former NZ champion, Andrew, will continue where he left off in 2019 and challenge not just for the NZRC title, but the Asia Pacific Rally Championship. He has competed at the Otago Rally several times before with mixed results, but after gaining vital experience in 2019, he is one to look out for. Mike Young, who recently announced his continuation with Cusco in the APRC will run a second Force Motorsport Mazda, and will be keen to challenge for the win. His recent form in New Zealand has been retched with bad luck, and the change to a Mazda for Otago will be a move he will be hoping brings him great success. It is unknown if Young has set plans for the 2020 NZRC. At this stage he will compete in Otago and at the Rally of Whangarei with Cusco. Championship veteran, Brian Green will also switch from a Mitsubishi to one of the Force Motorsport cars, run under the banner of the Ralliart team. "Mike Young and Jack (Hawkeswood) will be teammates at Otago and a third Mazda will be run by Ralliart for Brian Green," Force Motorsport's Andrew Hawkeswood said. "Jack will compete in both the NZRC and the APRC component of the event," he added. The Otago Rally will run from April 4-5, and include some of the world's best talents including Hayden Paddon, Alister McRae and Mikko Hirvonen.
