Former World Rally Champion Colin McRae has tested the Nissan Navara that the will drive in the upcoming Transiberico off-road rally, which will run from May 31 to June 3.

"Our pick-up covered a total of 156km without the slightest mechanical problem and Colin was able to work through a variety of suspension set-ups in the course of the day," team boss Gregoire de Mevius said.

de Mevius also enthused about working with McRae. "It was great to have the chance to work with such an experienced driver. We didn't give him any instructions and he was free to work on the car's set-up as he saw fit. We will now apply the results of the test to the Nissan he will drive on the event.”

"It was a good test," McRae said. "When Grégoire offered me a drive on a baja event with his team's Nissan, I accepted at once. The test confirms what I thought before travelling out to Belgium, which is that there is practically no difference between this Navara and the works car I drove on the 2005 Dakar."

Jean-Marc Fortin, who will co-drive for Colin McRae on the Transiberico, admits he was impressed by the former World Rally Champion. "He was remarkably easy to work with," he said.

"He was relaxed and friendly throughout the day. He didn't shirk at all the interviews that were asked of him and methodically worked on finding the set-up that suited him the best.”
