His appointment was announced by fellow director and Chairman of the rally organising committee Garry Connelly, who said the legendary 500 cc champion would make a significant contribution to the event.
Mr Doohan also joins Alan Evans, Geoff Jones, Peter Marcovic, Mike Rayner, and Walter Sofronoff on the board.
“Although Mick retired from grand prix racing in 1999, he remains extremely busy and in much demand around the world, so we are grateful he has agreed to give his time to Repco Rally Australia,†Mr Connelly said.
“We hope to benefit from his experience and knowledge gained over 11 years on the motorcycle grand prix trail and from the contribution he has continued to make to motorsport since then.â€
Mr Doohan, who lives on the Gold Coast, said he hoped to be able to contribute something from his long experience in international motorsport as a competitor and later as a consultant to the MotoGP organiser DORNA.
"I'm motorsport's biggest fan, so although my background is mostly with motorcycles I've also followed rallying, Formula One, and other forms of racing over many years,†he said.
"It's important for Australia to be part of world championship motorsport, so I'm keen to help any way I can with our WRC event.â€
The Queenslander won 500 cc world championships in 1994-95-96-97-98 and scored 54 wins and 58 pole positions in a 137-race grand prix career.
