John and David Hills are the latest Australian drivers to throw their hats into the ring for New Zealand’s Silver Fern marathon rally.

The NSW father-and-son duo will drive the same Escort MkI BDAs they campaigned on last year’s East African Safari Classic Rally, with John driving the 1800cc car and David the 1600cc model.

The experienced marathon campaigners are the seventh and eighth Australians entered for the event, and the second and third from NSW after Brett Middleton, who will drive a Honda Civic on the 7-14 October South Island event.

The other Australians entered are Victorians Graham Alexander in a Datsun 260Z, Steve Coad in a Torana XU1, Peter Riseborough in a Nissan Sunny B310, and Queenslanders Jim Wallace in his BMW M3 and Robert Elliot, whose car has yet to be confirmed.

The other non-New Zealand entry received so far is from British rally driver, Iain Freestone.

Freestone will compete in the same 1975 MKI Ford Escort RS2000 in which he finished 6th overall in the 2005 Classic East African Safari Rally, and 1st overall in the classic event section of the 2005 London – Dakar Rally.
