Paul Gover's appointment as an ambassador for rallying comes as a result of his long passion for the sport, a passion which spans four decades and has seen him report on and compete in the Australian Rally Championship in a variety of machines from his own Datsun Stanza in the 1980s to works backed Toyotas , Subarus and Hyundais .
As well as having scored top ten finishes in ARC events Gover is also a former ACT Junior Rally Champion and has had the chance to drive World Rally Cars in various tests over the years.
According to ARC CEO Scott Pedder the decision to appoint Paul Gover as an ambassador for the Bosch Australian Rally Championship was a logical one given his long history in the sport and his strong advocacy for rallying over that time.
"Paul is a lifelong rally fan who has also competed at the highest levels in Australia and has an intimate knowledge and love of the sport," said Scott Pedder.
"His first contact was running a control at a round of the NSW state championship in 1972, he started reporting on the ARC in 1976 and is a highly accomplished driver, so I could not think of a better person to become our first ambassador," he said.
"Paul has seen the highs and lows of rallying and has the desire to help the sport as we work to rebuild the Australian Rally Championship and take it to new highs in the future," he added.
For Paul Gover the chance to represent rallying by taking on the role as ambassador for the Bosch ARC is an honour and an opportunity he could not pass up.
"Rallying is the most exciting and demanding form of motorsport there is and I am proud to have been asked to represent the Bosch Australian Rally Championship to spread the word about the sport and to pass on some of my knowledge and experience to Scott and his team," said Paul Gover.
"Rallying is experiencing a renaissance both at the WRC level and here in Australia in our national championship, it is exciting to be a part of that, particularly with the Rallyschool Junior Australian Rally Challenge and the chance to unearth some champions of the future," he added.
Paul Gover has been at the forefront of motoring and motorsport journalism throughout his career and has covered all areas of the business - from daily newspapers and specialist magazines to the motorsport press, public relations and marketing.
He has worked for the Herald Sun newspaper for the past 16 years and is currently the chief reporter for Carsguide, the national motoring arm of News Limited.
At 55, and with an 18 month old son his passion for the sport of rallying is undiminished and he is looking forward to the new era in the Bosch Australian Rally Championship.
