Instead of needing detailed medical reports once you turn 45, the sport’s governing body has loosened it to those over 60.

It’s a 15-year adjustment that will make a world of difference to existing competitors around the country.

“We’re pleased to be adapting our medical requirements as we know the age restrictions had meant that some people chose not to renew due to the time or costs involved in obtaining their medical,” Motorsport Australia CEO Sunil Vohra said.

“Based on extensive research and assessment of the risks and medical requirements, this change was ultimately approved by the Motorsport Australia Board, with the support of NMAC and the Motorsport Risk and Safety Committee.

“We benchmarked to other FIA related motorsport bodies globally and this change is aligned with the requirements of other countries.”

New applicants will still have medical requirements to undertake but will fall under the same guidelines as others once they become existing license holders.

The Motorsport Australia Board has approved the change, and with the support of the National Medical Advisory Committee (NMAC) and Motorsport Risk and Safety Committee, the changes will come into effect on August 1st, 2024.
