Lowndes, who has spent the last few seasons on the sidelines, drove his ageing Lancer Evo 5 in Telstra Rally Australia last year, and his performance was impressive – so much so that he has decided to re-enter the sport.
He has built a brand new Lancer Evo 9 and will contest all six rounds of the championship.
He will continue to be co-driven by long-time partner, Chris Randell.
