Event Statement:

This morning during the 9.75km Cromer stage the first of the day.  The Pedders Suspension Rally Team car of Scott Pedder and Jon Mortimer was involved in an incident approximately 1.6 kms into the stage.

Full details are not yet available, however it is understood the car made heavy contact with a tree. Co-driver Jon Mortimer was shaken though not injured. Driver Scott Pedder sustained a leg injury that required medical attention.

The location of the incident combined with rapid medical response meant that both a paramedic and a trauma doctor were on the scene within two minutes to attend to the crew.

It was quickly established that neither Scott Pedder nor Jon Mortimer had received life threatening injuries, however it was decided that a medical helicopter would be called to transport Scott to Royal Adelaide Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

The stage was immediately cancelled. First on scene were Simon and Sue Evans who notified organisers via the emergency contact number. Both the Evans/Evans car and the Quinn/Green car did not rejoin the event until SS13 missing SS12. They will be allocated a time for the missed stage.

Rally Organiser and Clerk of the Course Ivar Stanelis: “While it’s a shame to lose one of the leading competitors, it’s reassuring to the other competitors to know that our medical response team were there within minutes. We have strict and well drilled procedures in the event of an incident like this. In this instance we were not only able to respond immediately and appropriately to the needs of the crew, but were also able to quickly establish that we needed to cancel the stage as well.”
