The FIA has confirmed that Pirelli will be exclusive tyre supplier in the WRC from 2021 to 2024, confirming recent rumours that Michelin are to end their WRC supply work. Pirelli tyres are to be used in RC1 (Rally 1, meaning World Rally Cars) and RC2 (Rally 2 - the old WRC2 Pro category, meaning the old R5 cars) classes. Pirelli had earlier been announced as the exclusive tyre supplier for the Junior World Rally Championship. Pirelli was absent from top level rallying in 2017. Apart from victory for DMack on the 2017 Wales Rally GB, cars with Michelin tyres had won every WRC event since the start of the 2011 season at Monte Carlo Rally. "This is an exciting new phase in the development of the World Rally Championship and we are happy to announce Pirelli as our exclusive single tyre supplier for a period of four years from 2021," FIA rally director Yves Matton said. "I am convinced Pirelli will bring a wealth of experience to the program."

Pirellis were the tyre of choice for Subaru in their stint in the WRC.
