Long-time Victorian competitor Owen Polanski will return to rallying in 2007 after a layoff of some years.

Polanski spent this year rebuilding and improving his 1981 Datsun Stanza, finishing 10th outright at the Boisdale Hillclimb last month.

In 2007 he plans to contest selected Victorian Championship and Victorian Club Rally Series events, with an ultimate goal of having as much fun as possible and keeping his pride and joy straight.

Although he’s still looking for a full-time co-driver in 2007, Polanski is pleased that several businesses have come on board as sponsors of his program, including the East Gippsland Gig Guide, Paynesville Smash Repairs, Bairnsdale Automotive & EFI, and Opals Restaurant in Bairnsdale.

RallySport Magazine asked Polanski what he thought was the biggest issue facing Australian rallying at present?

“Over regulation and the cost associated with that,” he says. “Also an apparent over-emphasis on the ARC at the expense of club and state level rallying.

“I’d also like to see the trend of classic rallying continue to grow as this is potentially going to keep many competitors active in the sport who may otherwise leave. We also need to look at using more areas of the state that are under utilised, such as East Gippsland,” he added.
