Chris Atkinson overcame overheating problems late on day one of the Rally of Finland to finish the day in sixth place.
The Australian had been fifth for much of the day, but a partially blocked radiator slowed his progress.
"I’m pretty satisfied with how we drove today. From the start we targeted a top six position and despite the tricky conditions and the time we lost on the last stages we are there," Akinson said at the end of the day.
" I’m sure that we can fix the overheating and tomorrow we look forward to getting back out there and setting more good times."
His team-mate, Petter Solberg, is fourth, behind leader Marcus Gronholm, World Champion Sebastien Loeb, and Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen.
