Leading Australian rally driver, Ryan Smart, has suffered a serious leg injury while competing in a motorcycle event. Smart, a former ARC event winner and Queensland Rally Champion, broke the tibia plateau off his right knee during a round of the Australian Off Road Championship at Dungog. "I'm heading in for surgery today to get either a plate and screws or just keyhole surgery with a couple screws, providing they can get the bone to sit back in place," Smart said today. "All going to plan will be out for 6 weeks then back to normal 👌🏼 have already had a knee reconstruction on this leg and my knee is ok thank god 👍🏻 "Believe it or not, it was one of the slowest falls I’ve had. "I got back on and finished the special test with my leg broken which was tough. Popped some pain killers and my mates drove me 10 hours home the next day. "I didn’t want to get stuck in some random regional hospital. I’m down at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital with one of the best knee/leg injury specialists, so I’m sure it’ll work out well." Smart is taking 'self-inflicted isolation' to a whole new level.
