With just one round in the 2007 City Subaru Queensland Rally Championship to go, the provisional progressive pointscores suggest that Steve Shepheard and Tom Smith cannot be beaten for the title of Queensland Rally Champions.

Having just returned from Coffs Harbour where they added another round victory to their tally, they have four outright wins and a second place from five events giving them 178 points.

The closest competitors are Glenn Brinkman and Steve Richardson on 129 points, who won the 2006 championship battle – but even if Brinkman wins outright and Shepheard fails to finish, there are only 35 points on offer for the outright win.

As a result, any points to be claimed by Shepheard/Smith from the final QRC round (the Recovered Resources Rally) should add to the existing lead over the field.

This state championship will be the second for both driver and co-driver.
Steve won the title in 2004 with Dominic Corkeron, and Tom won his first title way back in 1991 with Mark Griffith.

The pair have competed together for three seasons now, and regularly tasted success in events but have been unable to combine sufficient event wins to claim a title in ’05 or ’06.
The success of the team is due to the concerted efforts of the GSA workshop and service team who consistently prepare a fast and reliable vehicle.
