Western Australia’s most prestigious tarmac rally event, Quit Targa West, was officially launched last night with a cocktail function held at West Australian Porsche dealership Chellingworth Motors.

A crowd of just under 100 people, including competitors, sponsors and officials, celebrated the launch of the tarmac rally, with event organisers releasing much awaited information about the 2008 event.

Quit Targa West is now firmly established amongst the top rallies of its type in Australia and in 2008 it will run again on its traditional date in early September.

Run along some of the best stretches of tarmac road in Western Australia, Quit Targa West competitors are given the chance to drive in some of the most beautiful parts of Perth’s surrounding Shires of Chittering, Toodyay, Kalamunda and the Perth Hills at their most stunning time of year.

The already (in)famous zig zag stage will once again be joined by the popular stages of Muchea, Racecourse Road, Bindoon Country Club and Western Range, a stage that last year led Jim Richards and Barry Oliver to state that, “in 15 years of tarmac rally events all around Australia, Western Range has to be one of the best stages we have ever driven!”

With nearly a full list of Expressions of Interest, organisers are once again looking for a bumper field of local and interstate competitors.

“We started getting expressions of interest as soon as the event concluded last year and they haven’t stopped since,” said Event Director Bob Schrader.

“We run an event based on restricted entries and if the expressions of interest are anything to go by we will have a full field in September.

“Our key goals are to provide a highly enjoyable ‘Five Star’ event for Classic and Modern vehicles.

“The spirit of Quit Targa West is centred on the taking part and enjoyment of the “thrill of the open road” in a controlled and competitive environment,” he continued.

Quit Targa West entries close on Friday 15 August at 20:00 hours with competitors urged to get their entries in as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

QUIT Targa West would like to thank the many event sponsors, individuals, organisations, car clubs, volunteers and supporters who so generously give their time, expertise, resources and commitment to make the event run.

Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms for the 2008 event are available from www.targawest.com.au.
