Kennards Hire Rally Australia has shot to the top of social media rankings for events in the World Rally Championship (WRC), with over 306,000 followers across 35 countries.
Considered second to the prestigious World F1 Championship, world rallying showcases production based cars across most continents, with major vehicle manufacturers spending big on teams and drivers.
Australia has run a round of the Championship for 25 years, starting off in Perth and relocating to the East Coast in 2009, winning ‘Best Event’ a number of times.
The Australian event has been known for many firsts, holding of the first Super Special Stage at Langley Park in Perth and now leading the world in social media.
Early in 2016, social media was identified as an emerging medium for engaging with supporters and fans by the management team and a plan was put in place to capitalise on this new and emerging medium to inform fans and supporters.
Kennards Hire Rally Australia’s innovative management team saw the potential to build their audience and engaged R6 Web Design™ to undertake a multifaceted social media and ticket marketing campaign.
“Over 2 million people follow the WRC and I was certain we could earn a fair share of those supporters for our rally,” Dallas Dogger, CEO of R6 Web Design, said.
Ken the kangaroo attends all WRC rounds on behalf of Rally Australia ....Australia, by nature of its location and population, does not have the millions of motorsport fans other countries have.
R6 Web Design™ systematically has created over 5,000 pieces of content to attract followers, all of them genuine fans of the WRC.
Every social media platform has its difficulties and hard work has gone into driving engagement to the event feeds.
R6 Web Design™ even created ‘Ken’ the kangaroo, an Australian Kangaroo, who is lucky enough to visit all the rounds on behalf of the rally. His posts are very popular and his antics are closely followed!
Importantly, Australia’s rise to the top of the list underpins the tireless work the 1300 volunteer officials do to ensure Australia has one of the most organised and safest rounds in the World Rally Championship – one that drivers and teams enjoy.
Come November, Australia will host our round at Coffs Harbour, the last for the year. The event may also wrap up the WRC title for drivers and manufacturers, with no less than Ford, Hyundai, Citroen and Toyota all chasing manufacturer glory.
French driver, Sebastien Ogier, driving an M-Sport WRC Ford Fiesta must start favourite as he has won the event three times in the last five years.
The R6 Web Design™ team will be in action this year with a full program of interesting content planned leading up to and during the event.
