It’s now just over 11 months until Rally Australia 2008 is scheduled to be held in Queensland.
Yet despite pleas for information from all corners of the sport, we are still no closer to knowing where the event will be based or what format the rally will take.
It’s a situation that is getting more ridiculous by the day, and you would have to draw the conclusion that the event is looking a little wobbly – at least from the outside.
RallySport Magazine requested information on the event – any information – from former Australian Rally Commission chairman and Rally Australia clerk of course, Garry Connelly, four weeks ago. So far we have had no response.
RallySport Magazine receive regular phone calls, emails and inquiries about Rally Australia 2008, with most people wanting to lock in holidays, book accommodation and plan their trip to the event. There have also been requests - both from Australia and overseas - for RallySport Magazine to run a tour to the event next year, but with no information on hand, this is proving difficult.
Rally Australia’s own website has not been updated since October 29, 2006, and searches on the internet for information on the event continually draw blanks.
With so many other countries putting their hands up to run a round of the World Rally Championship, you would think that some positive pre-event publicity would be the first thing Rally Australia 2008 organisers would want to do.
This is not a smear campaign against Rally Australia or the organisers, but there must come a time when some information must be released. Come on guys, give the rallying public some information on the event and put an end to the rumours that the event is not likely to run.
