Repco Rally Australia has amended plans to use two roads in the Kyogle Shire in northern New South Wales in its World Rally Championship event next September.

Williams Road and the entire length of Sargents Road had been included in the original proposed route to be contested by the world’s top teams in the rally on 3-6 September.

Event organisers confirmed today that Williams Road will not be used at all and that a portion of the Kyogle Road end of Sargents Road will only be used as a "liaison" section and not part of a competition stage.

“We have now had discussions with our consultants about the management of issues associated with the original proposed route and as a result we will not be applying to use Williams Road as a competitive  special stage or non-competitive road section,” organising committee Chairman Garry Connelly said.

“On the same basis, we will not be applying to use the final section of Sargents Road as a special stage. That section will be between 2.5 kms and 4.5 kms long, but is yet to be determined.”

Mr Connelly thanked residents who had communicated their views on the rally to the organisers.

“We are keen to keep an open line of communication with the community. Our goal for the rally is to bring a strong economic and social benefit to the region,” he said.
